Thank you, Donors!

We would like to thank our 2009 donors for "taking the credit" for private education. Your support will help provide tuition scholarships to deserving students this coming year. At this point, all receipts have been sent by mail/email. If you would like to request a copy of your receipt, please submit a receipt request form online.

In addition, we would like to remind you of a few important APESF policies already in place. One in particular we must understand and adhere to is the issue of reciprocity or recommendation “swapping”. This has been a major focus of the media and state lawmakers as the practice allows donors to potentially designate their own dependents by arranging a swap with another family. This is not legal and APESF is on the alert. If reciprocity is suspected, APESF will contact both donors and their recommendations will not be honored. For more information, read our Recommendations and Reciprocity "Swapping" Policies.

Message to Donors

November 29th, 2009 · Blog, For Donors

Dear Friend:

We recently released our fall newsletter The Voice for Choice*, highlighting our commitment to school choice and heart for Arizona families. The opposition continues to mount a massive media offensive in an effort to derail educational choice through false characterizations of the tax credit law and the many organizations that diligently strive to work within it. However, no changes have been made to the law. We still have the right and opportunity to vote with our resources by making a dollar-for-dollar tax credit donation in support of Arizona students.

K-12 Education Tax Credits Save Millions

November 24th, 2009 · Blog, For Donors, For Parents, For Schools, Media

Posted by Andrew J. Coulson

The latest fiscal impact review of Arizona’s scholarship tax credit programs estimates that they saved between $44 million and $186 million last year. The programs offer individuals and businesses dollar-for-dollar tax credits if they make donations to non-profit K-12 scholarship-granting organizations. Those organizations, in turn, provide private school tuition assistance.

This is much higher than the savings estimate offered by the Arizona Republic last month, as the AZ Republic story linked above is quick to point out. I deal with the reasons for the discrepancy below, but first, here’s the crucial fact…
